Winter edition part one: the Book Nook with Amanda + Jake

Part one of our very first Book Nook compilation!

A few weeks ago creative director + illustrator Amanda Schutz shared her son Jake’s beautiful library in her Instagram stories. We were blown away by the collection she had put together. In her story she mention’s how building Jake’s library has been one of her favourite mom tasks and it totally shows! Amanda was gracious enough to allow us to share her and Jake’s list with you folks in our first ever Book Nook compilation. Thanks Amanda! We hope you enjoy part one of their library. We’ll be sharing the remainder of their book choices in the coming weeks.

Something else worth sharing, Amanda almost always takes a new book for a trial run through Edmonton Public Library before purchasing. We absolutely love this idea!

Jake has loved these ones for months. They are interactive and teach about colour mixing etc. They are so playful and engaging!

Francesca has taught us about fear and the beauty of earth’s seasons.

Oliver Jeffers of course. Jake learned his animals with one of his books called Here We Are.

Keith Negley makes these beautiful books that will just make any designer drool. Jake knows Mary Wears What She Wants by heart as we’ve read it 1000 times.

Great for learning about so many things and Anna makes sustainable/zero waste toys for her kids @abelsplaythings.

I learned about this book at Icon Conference and the story is tender and powerful, very relevant for the division of our society. Daniel Salmieri is a wonderful illustrator and you should look him up!

Jake goes wild for Jillian Tamaki books! The latest one, Our Little Kitchen, he has memorized and attach the food on the page with his hands and pretends to eat.
